Our Facility

Consistent with our commitment to excellence, Blue Planet Reef Farms implemented a state-of-the-art facility in Vermont. Our emphasis is to give our livestock the best chance possible to thrive. Our procedures are strong and with the emphasis on giving you the strongest livestock for your customers.

Individual Raceways

Blue Planet Reef Farms facility is designed to house 10 individual raceways. One raceway is dedicated as a Hospital/Treatment(HT) raceway for the sole purpose of receiving fish and corals. When we receive livestock and after a long acclimation, the livestock is added to our HT raceway. We then monitor the live stock and every mortality is scrutinized under a microscope to determine the cause of death. In most cases livestock does not need to be treated and only nursed back to health after their long journey. In the event that we need to treat the raceway we have an array of medications and treatment at our disposal to attack any threat (we do not use copper). Once the fish have recovered and eating well (normally after 10 days), they are moved to grow out raceways.

True Aquarium Reared

Once our livestock is ready to moved to a grow out raceway the new arrivals are mixed with likewise and compatible livestock from all over the world. We do this because we want to mimic your customer's reefs and aquariums where fish from multiple regions are mixed in the same tank. As the livestock grow and prosper, they are exposed to living with livestock from other regions. In addition, when fish first arrive we feed them what they would normally eat in the wild so they stay healthy. As they get used to human interaction and contact, we slowly convert them to eating processed foods.

By converting our livestock to eating processed foods, by the time you get your order, not only will the livestock be used to human interaction, but will be very willing to start eating processed food. This is extremely important for the wellbeing of the animal. Only aquaculture fish are used to eating processed foods. Fish such as butterflies, Regal Angels, some puffers, etc that normally do not make it because they are not given the proper time to convert from their food to process foods are a thing of the past. Purchasing from us enables you to deliver to your customers livestock that will thrive thus giving you a good reputation. Aquarium Reared fish are known in the industry as bullet-proof fish.

State of The Art Equipment

Each raceway is individually monitored for all parameters. We inject Ozone and pure oxygen into each raceway to maintain acceptable water parameters under aquaculture conditions. Our Average water parameters are as follows:

Salinity -	30 to 31 ppt	Temperature -	78ºF-79ºF
Dissolved Oxygen -	100% - 105%	ORP -	375 - 425
PH -	8.1 to 8.2

We use the best of products for the care of our fish. We use Instant Ocean Salts for our mixing water.
